Building laboratory capacity with semi-automated solutions for influenza and SARS-CoV-2 testing

Surges in SARS-CoV-2 testing and high laboratory staff turnover within the last two years have posed a significant challenge to public health laboratories across the USA. One strategy for addressing this challenge is to introduce more automation into laboratory workflows. The New Hampshire Public Health Laboratories (NHPHL) implemented the ASSIST PLUS and MINI 96 to automate sample processing and nucleic acid transfer for SARS-CoV-2 testing. This helped the lab to cope with the dramatic increase in workload, and to stay on top of urgent testing throughout this turbulent time.
