Automate your HLA typing workflow with the ASSIST PLUS pipetting robot

The human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system plays an important role in the regulation of the immune system, recognizing cells as ‘self’ or ‘non-self’ to prevent the body from attacking its own cells. The HLA system is a key factor in transplant rejection – where the donor cells are not recognized as ‘self’ by the recipient – and is also known to contribute to some autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

HLA typing is an important, commonly used genetic test in diagnostic laboratories all over the world. It involves using serological or molecular biological methods to find donors and recipients with closely matched HLA patterns, minimizing the risk of transplant rejection. If HLAs of the donor are different to those of the recipient, an immune response against the donated tissue is triggered, causing cell death.
